Isn't it said that a lawyer never ask a witness a question, in the stand, that he doesn't already know the answer to.
The appointment of an "independant expert" is of a similar ilk. In the "coalition of corruptions" eyes, if they were going to have, say, a banking enquiry, wouldn't john key be a perfect "independant expert".
Mention of English and his retirement fund boost, Bernard Hickey’s ‘When the Facts Change’ has a podcast with him talking about how bad Kanga Ora’s performance has been. Talk is all about moving state house building to the private sector. The govt is not committed to social housing other than subsidising some renters, which is a neat transfer of tax payer money to private business. It should be remembered when English had the reigns, State Housing was almost crippled.
It is blindingly obviously that all the government is interested in is the transfer of all public services to private businesses and when things go wrong, ministers will shrug and say ‘nothing to do with us, nothing to see, move on!’
Our media will struggle to provide effective criticism of government as they are running scared of loosing funds and jobs.
And where are Labour? Navel gazing as usual. Greens? Struggling with bad press and no media wanting to hear any policy.
One of the depressing aspects of watching this government is how predictable they are. I can trace an outcome from when they first raise a topic or potential action, to the result months later. Inevitably, it comes true.
But it only makes for a rather depressing timeline.
There is almost no ingenuity in anything they do. It's like a bad copy and paste of the Tory playbook, only we already know the ending.
Gordon Campbell also did a great piece on KO where he wrote:
"Kāinga Ora’s “independent review” was carried out by the same National Party leader whose own administration’s inadequate housing build – and selling of state houses- had caused Kāinga Ora to embark on its crash building programme in the first place.
To use a rugby analogy, this situation is exactly like hiring Ian Foster to carry out an “independent” assessment of Scott Robertson’s coaching abilities."
Also, schools (giving away school assets to charter schools), roads (disguised as PPPs), wait for it... hospital buildings and assets. And then, I'm not sure what's left.
If you read their speeches and actions, they intend to make drastic changes in a very short time frame. We also have to remember that most of the country isn't even aware of half of this.
You honestly have to wonder who the players are behind all this as it's obvious to blind Freddie that none of the current Members have the IQ to come with it themselves? Just puppets.

He would be precisely the level of independence they sought. Yes.
Ala Bill English for Kainga Ora. It’s all a bit of a farce at the moment.

Hardly what the country actually needs!
I couldn't agree more with you Tony.

Your comments are spot on -
I wrote about Kainga Ora here too: https://mountaintuihere.substack.com/p/knives-out-for-kainga-ora
And Bernard Hickey is fantastic.

Nailed it.

The tell? Appointment by the current Govt
