😱That Emmerson cartoon says it all 😱 It's kinda sad that what is going on in the US ALMOST makes our lot look trivial, but not only is what they are planning & implementing in Aotearoa extremely harmful in several ways (from personal, ecological, academic, economic etc) but it is actually the mid-stride of the race to emulate the full on sprint that is happening under Drumpf. We know from your & many other's research that the same wealthy people are behind both & are pushing our complicit NACT1st acolytes into following the path of destruction. Those of us who can do ANYTHING need to make it as hard as possible, and if we can, impossible, to impose this harm on us & our nation's children in the future.
N. B. It doesn't close til late Feb, but lets not sleep on submissions about the Gun legislation if we don't want a loosening of regulation about weapons of mass killing 🤷
The real scary thing is they will do this come hell or high water. People like Luxon and Seymour - who has already indicated he will leave politics for "business" - are just using this to complete their real KPIs for the real people they want to impress.
Look at Luxon's eyes as he talks about the uber wealthy Middle Easterners and their money - this man epitomises low class, in my opinion.
Re: submissions, there are many, yes thank you for reminding us Cindy.
The elite are awash with money to invest and if there was a return in Aotearoa then they would have already invested here. What this CoC is not saying is that by eliminating regulations, such as environmental, health and safety, minimum wages, then an investment that would not be viable with regulations will be lucrative without, exploitation by stealth.
The term " investing in NZ " is a euphemism for " buy it, suck the assets, profits and brains out of it, and walk away". Consider the number of organisation's that are foreign owned, hell we don't even make our own biscuits anymore. Let alone buying back the railways for a dollar.
As for the science slash and burn exercise, that is at odds with their stated objective of increasing income. My daughter as a scientist found that the more experience she acquired, the job opportunities reduced till there was only two a uni or ag research. She now lives offshore and has just developed a serious money earner for her new company.
Agreed. And good on your daughter; unfortunately we do lose most of our best and brightest with how our "economy" is structured and viewed. In addition, NACT1's approach is boring, old, tried, tested, failed.
It couldn't be more obvious this is about enriching their donors and themselves, and nothing to do with genuine prosperity for ordinary Kiwi, and our futures.
They simply will not listen to opposition from us woke lefties. The best way to deter foreign investors (aka looters) is for the opposition pati(s) to collectively say, “when we are back actually running this country (our country) we will reverse the vandalism and you will not be guaranteed compensation. ie scare off the vulture capitalists by threatening their capital

It’s not hard to imagine the marketing that went into the anti vax and anti environmental influencers on Facebook right here in New Zealand.

In conclusion she warns that she is the canary in the coal mine telling us if the imminent collapse of democracy if we the people do not take action.
Please watch it listen carefully and take note of the uncanny similarities with our journey of disinformation and lies that got us to where we are today.
funny you mention Peter Thiel, I was trying to find the article I read where he was quoted about working with the Key Government around some sovereign state in NZ ( you know a place to hide out and not pay taxes ) that never went ahead due to the change of government ( thanks for Winston). I can't find it yet, but I just see the sparse connections coalescing into this once some of these changes are implemented. First off the PT Wanaka development, I am guessing this will hit the fast track at some stage. Perhaps we could change the tax rules that all NZ citizens have to pay a citizenship tax on their worldwide income even if they are not residents in NZ?
I doubt money is an object for someone like Thiel though, and once you get to those levels of wealth, it's inconsequential in practice: tax laws are simply opportunities for rich people to find loopholes and shelters....
That said, I know there is big money - bigger than Winston has ever seen, I'd wager - involved so...the coalition is also a coalition of right wing interests funded by right wingers
I jumped on here to say that in spite of all the wishful thinking in the world good science takes time. It takes many many years to get a miracle drug to market for example, so once again Luxon is showing his ineptitude. But being distracted by the comments here, in relation to Peter ThieI couldn’t help thinking about Eleanor Catton’s character Robert Lemoine in Birman Wood who got his comeuppance at the hand of the mighty warrior Jill. We all need to be Jill’s, on high alert for these miscreants.
Such an exceptional point and incredibly true. Most of what Luxon talks about is fantasy lala land stuff, and boring to cover for its fantastical stories.
It's sad that such people make decisions for serious people in society.
"Treaty Principles Bill cost - $6m and counting..."
If each of those 343,000 submissions took an hour and the time was valued at minimum wage the labour cost alone is close to $8,000,000. Plenty of us took a lot longer and would value our time at more than minimum wage, so it could feasibly be double that. And all to be scrapped after the first reading. Who was it talking about productivity again?
Luxon talks about productivity and eschewing use of the word No. But there he is selling off the nation's infrastructure, supporting the importation of coal from India and borrowing millions to reward landlords like himself who are a major cause of inflation. Not to mention living it up at his US home

Brilliant explanation Mountain Tui.
Yes, UEA will enlarge our house and charge us rents which will keep rising.
They are not called Sovereign Wealth Funds for nothing. They are oil money looking for a new forever home.
Precisely, thanks, Patricia

Precisely. And the effort & stress for Maori who are striving to get ahead, such a useless diabolical distraction!
For what cause?
Such a great point - I'll point that out to C.Renney on his Bluesky.
