Thanks MT. It is appalling that a council has to fund a campaign to get the Dunedin hospital built. A campaign promise from National now cancelled. Feels like this is just the beginning.

That's what I thought too - incredulous we now have local councils having to fight for our healthcare.

It's a year now and they have got a legislative barriers out of the way and are lining up "investors" - can't say they won't do a lot more damage

Another excellent but depressing Article MT. Upgraded to Founding member. Let me know if that becomes sharable, please.

😱Another day another reminder of the consequences of voting (or not) & that "politics" affects day to day life. Thanks for keeping us up to date - I am in the "I need to know but unless I can DO something I will note, remember, & move on to something positive" stage - at least until the US election is over & mental bandwidth is restored 🤷

The Building Act back in 2004 enabled accredited private individuals to undertake the regulatory role of certifying building work compliance. Replacing Council-employed certifiers. My recollection is that since 2004 private builders have been able to do this work (just like automobile mechanics do WOF work) so I ask what has changed? Are companies (which have limited liability) now able to take on this work or is it something else?

Did it that change to the Building Act 2004 give us the leaky building fiasco. In Tauranga a majority of a development had to demolished a few years ago and wonder if that new 2004 BA accounted for it?

I suspect the profits from certification will be privatised, and the liability will still rest with council/govt. Seems to be this govt's standard operating model
