I'm watching AL Jazeera and it's not looking good for Harris. The sense of disbelief I have that Trump could by any stretch be deemed capable of leading the "free" world has gone through the roof. However, the world's voters as a whole have been prepared to vote in bullies, crooks, liars and cheats in various countries from South America to Europe so I guess the US of A is just part of a clueless trend. Maybe it's sun spots?

It's complex but to me, the Democrats could have done better to heed the calls of Obama and Bernie Sanders to hold their horses on the nomination. I have nothing against Kamala Harris but the election is based on a few swing states and America has never voted in a female President - let alone a female President of colour.

I also saw many people on the "left" (although that's a huge spectrum and range in that word) criticise Kamala and call her a war criminal along with Biden.

OK - there is some truth to it, but is your alternative the preference?

Finally - we simply cannot underestimate the power of the right wing media - they have roundly changed America from "we're fellow Americans" to "let's kill them".

They changed it from we respect police to literally attacking and trying to kill police officers on Capitol Hill.

To be honest, I don't think this is unexpected and I never thought Kamala would win - although I always hoped I was wrong.

And I still hope I am wrong.

7:15 pm and looking very hopeless for the free world - feeling sick to the core… Are citizens too easily manipulated to justify democracy?

It's complicated but .. basically the misinformation wars cultivated over many long years, and the complete dominance of money into media and platforms - has won its wars.

Unfortunately I knew this would be the outcome, i.e. I thought this would be the case - but for months I've been hoping I was just wrong on it.

It's a sad day and a monumental one for the world.

It does. I always sensed he would win but even as I saw it develop - without being brave enough to follow most of it - it felt pretty depressing

She's got an outside chance but basically needs a miracle in a couple of those swing states. FFS what is this world coming to?

Thank you for all the mahi you are doing to help those of us who don’t understand what is going down.

Kia Ora Bill, you are welcome. I have on my mind what I promised you by the way. It’s just that every day there is so much dung to wade through - but please know I haven’t forgotten.

And hope you’re well.

One theory I saw, was that trump will win, go properly gaga and vance will become president. By all accounts he's more bat-shit crazy than trump.

Funnily enough this was my exact sense when Vance was first appointed. He's the favoured one of Peter Thiel and other billionaires. He's more controllable too.
