'Ms Hall is ultimately right that the justice system worked as designed, but is she right that “the justice system is working” as intended?'
IMHO yes... she is correct.
We have to remember that our legal system was designed by wealthy white men. At the time of creation those people would have ensured that they created a system to protect them & people in their inner circle.
It's a bit like the inequality we are seeing in our society today, not because our economic system is broke... but because that is how it was intended to work. It requires that gap between the haves & have nots to serve the rich.
I obviously wasn't on the Jury, but also didn't follow the case closely. However, your point about "justice" is correct - not only that, but a poor Maori/Pacifica man would not have had the money & opportunity for all of the activities that the accused in the case indulged in via evidence from the prosecution 🤷🏾♀️ He did seem to live a privileged life & got a privileged Defence team.
Now that the trial is over, it will be interesting what comes out to either confirm the Jury was correct, or cast doubt on it in the "court of public opinion".
I, also didn't follow it closely, but the bits that I did hear reported, led me to conclude that he may not have murdered her but he sure as he'll contributed to her death
NPD - that applies to our PM & most of the cabinet……..
It's a handy checklist and would make sense of a lot of what is happening up there.

Same principle.
It is incredibly sad.
A great point Cristina, and yes, it's sad.

So sad. Whether or not he physically did it he certainly “caused”it. Listening to the defense final arguments made me feel ill.
Yes, that's one job that I cannot conceive of doing - ever.
