So...we have costello and Philip Morris, seymour and charter schools, luxon and the bright line legislation, Nicole McKee and gun laws, reti and private medical holdings, probably more I haven't figured out. Wasn't there a labour mp last year that resigned because he had shares in something? This coalition government is so corrupt it stinks.
Yeah, Michael Woods was forced to resign because he had - was it $12,000 worth - of airport shares.
And because propriety and avoiding any perceived conflict of interest is important to public roles [and Woods didn't like admin] he was effectively asked to resign.
Oh how naive the left are!
The conflicts of interest wherever we look [and potential corruption] stinks and it permeates through every cell and pore of every Minister in this government from Chris Bishop to David Seymour to Luxon to Costello to Jones - polluting our political discourse and country's direction.
Since this government took power, reminds me of those kids competitions where contestants can grab as many toys in a toy shop as possible within a minute’s window and then keep the prizes.
Except in NZs case, the owners of the shop were actually tricked into believing that the organisers were coming in to look after the store, not start extorting all the valuables to their funders as quickly as possible before being found out.
Hey Tui, good summary. Again I think media is burying the lede here. Casey is there because she has no direct relationships with tobacco lobby. She is doing the heavy lifting for the NZ first pollies that do and I feel as such there is a disconnect by design between who has been given this information from lobbyists and who is enacting the policy. HTPs are tobacco, and as such shouldn’t be getting a reduction. A reduction in combustion products does not equate a reduction in harm. It is not a linear relationship, and it sure as shit hasn’t been evaluated as such. Example from memory was the reduction in tar percentage in 1950s, this was thought to be a way of reducing harm. Unfortunately the continued increase in lung disease and death from smoking showed it wasn’t actually a dose -effect relationship of lower tar. HTS gives more chance of aldehydes and nicotine being absorbed compared to conventional cigarettes. Moreover they are available via a subscription service, so bypass sales through existing retailers.
Thanks MT. It would be funny if it wasn’t so unbelievably friggin awful, aside from the lies and obvious corruption, the potential negative health impacts looming, after all these months since the cancellation of smoke free generation, all of this still leaves me reeling in disbelief that a NZ govt could be so blatantly uncaring of health issues. Have all the ‘officials’ that provide advice been removed…? My partner just said I shouldn’t think of them as a traditional govt. They suggested I should see them as ‘employees’ of vested interests who have the privately owned media as their comms team. This fits with Luxon’s ‘CEO/KPI’ leadership too… *sigh.
Do we have to club together and buy full-page newspaper advertisements to get these points across to the 52.8% of voters who ticked the boxes of the greedy parties?
🙋🏽♀️Awww ... don't spoil my fun with horrible facts! 😉 I am determined to savour this little nugget of the fruits of her incompetence laid bare. 😜 Of course, enforcing this regulation against the illegal continued selling by greedy businesses, and the likelihood this lot will change the rules, means the effect is not as great as it should be,🤷🏾♀️ but I'm going to chuckle for a while longer (call it taking care of my mental health)🤪🫂

They are everywhere and they aren't great.

The disconnect probably involves Atlas Network operatives doing their job…

We've always had a modicum of corruption in central and local govt. Indeed a couple of mayor's in the auckland region were well known for it.
But, with Costello still having a job it has become blatant, in an "I don't give a shit" manner.
Thanks for splitting the two posts off this morn Tui, much easier for my pea brain.
Very welcome.
Casey Costello list MP Philip Morris First
So much for the US’s Project 2025, we have our own Project 2024 right here, right now.

Money does work and in lieu of that, I’m doing what I can to spread awareness with the limited means I have available - crazy world :-)
Thank our lucky stars we have you and others to provide clear views of what is really happening.
I would be lost without your research and clarification.
We have a PM who is not a leader and is not interested in the integrity of his government.
And to think we taxpayers are actually paying their salaries while they run us down!
