If police have the resources to send multiple officers to our music festivals, perhaps they should extend that same level of protection to smaller events that are being targeted by people who are actively threatening and perpetrating harmful acts?
Police obviously had prior knowledge - if the thugs knew, then so did the police.
I remember multiple NZ Herald headlines prior to the Treaty Principles Bill Hikoi - Mark Mitchell kept posturing about how police would come down on unlawfulness (sorry, there was none, Mark) - despite how peaceful it was from start to finish.
Police themselves were praising Hikoi organisers - so much of this is perception management from a government with - in my view - alt right wing values.
It also occurres to me that, had Suzy Cato been the child entertainer barricaded in a room with terrified parents and their young children, we would ALL be discussing now a very different law enforcement response.
Destiny Church and their eftpostle Brian are bought and paid for thugs of the government. They do on behalf of ACT and are stupid enough to actually think they are doing god’s work but actually they make themselves and by association Maori, look like savages. The right are weaponising god, Maori and the culture wars and the Destiny crowd are stupidly all over it. No governmental, police pushback on this because the government are the gleeful bastards watching this play out, but ole Mitchell warns NZ of the risk to NZ from the civil and real peaceful protest that was the hikoi - Toitu te tiriti.
For once in my life I agree with Mayor Wayne Brown, it is thuggery and it is disgusting.
Look at this way no one in our government has genuinely condemned this.
Late today during a press conference about tourism, I believe, Luxon said - when asked - that free speech and protest is respected but this went “too far” and then started prancing about what a great country we live in.
ie there was no unequivocal rebuttal nor any tough talk or actions - including outlawing Destiny gang patches.
The police are “investigating” but if social media accounts are accurate they didn’t do much yesterday.
I suspect there’s sympathy in some areas for anti woke endeavours. And that doesn’t fall far from the Beehive
Watching that clip, I did wonder if it might be appropriate for Police to equally apply their new powers to "disrupt and directly target gang activity" - seize those gang members t-shirts?
I agree!! It's outrageous to think that they might get away with that intimidating behaviour!! I hadn't seen the footage of the actual invasion of the gathering in the Library of the parents and babies, and am completely shocked! Badges of courage from me to those wonderful women who tried to prevent Scamaki's invasion of this peaceful and harmless event. Destiny Church is a cult and has lots of patched gang members who are causing massive harm in this country, imo!
