The ongoing rot and corruption is in plain sight from the New Zealand Coalition Government. The Casey Costello & tobacco industry love affair continues unabated and aided by her colleagues.
Didn’t the prime minister recently make a statement that “being a New Zealander comes with responsibilities”? That seems to indicate he knows the meaning of the word responsibility but conveniently ignores that being a leader comes with responsibilities to those he purports to lead. Does his religion not embrace the concept of integrity and respect?
There is so much hypocrisy and double talk coming through from their team that it's hard to decipher between myths and what they really mean anymore. I could write a post about that but my blood pressure might go up so I have to pace myself.
Thanks Tui. Please can you clarify this for me. Is there a point that a government acting without responsibility to the nation and its citizens where such actions can be proven to cause harm that they can be charged by the judiciary with gross negligence? OR is this only or even possible if that nation has a written constitution? Could the Treaty be used for this purpose?
They cannot be charged by the judiciary. We have a separation of powers and each branch is supposed to respect the other through principles such as “Comity."
Comity refers to the ability of the three branches of government – the judiciary, executive and Parliament – to work together with mutual respect and restraint.
Of note, this Government is systematically attacking our judiciary - most notably the Waitangi Tribunal, but also judges who have dared to question ACT's interpretation of the Treaty of Waitangi.
There is an argument that the executive i.e. the Government members have superior powers and in a way it is true - as we can see their efforts to implement Fast-Track are specifically to over-ride judicial decision.s
The Treaty question is why I paused though. The Treaty is an interesting area which could open up new possibilities to the larger populace if David Seymour et al keep pushing at it to please their donors.
great question.............but when we look at judiciary acts in america, the international court etc........the law seems powerless..............that is sure how I am feeling, rough riders don't give a rats arse and just carry on, doing obviously wrong stuff. i feel too old to be militant and really protest...........but I hate this powerless ness that they dont seem to care about....where are our teeth.
That's not how Govt works in NZ alas, we have no constitution or upper house so they are a dictatorship for 3 years unless the coalition collapses and a no confidence majority can be achieved if they cant pass a budget etc.
Thanks Mr Anderson I suspected that is the case.It does seem somewhat risky. Sir Geoffrey Palmer suggested recently that democracy is being abused ( not his words)by the unwritten principle that successive governments will attempt to not totally destroy the progress or whatever the previous administration had put in place without careful consideration and discussion. This administration seems to prefer to offer NO respect or consideration for any of the previous governments initiatives. Rather they seem to prefer to act like wreckers! Their “bedfellows 0 like Jones and Costello continue to act as though they have been given authority from such a minor representation and the “leader” intent on gaining a knighthood is bending to their power however it might have been arrived at. He’s a disgrace and would be better to go back to North America where his like are acceptable.
I've written to the corrupt and incompetent MP's, Costello, Jones, Bishop, Reti, Brown. Luxon Brownlee etc re their barren, bankrupt and backward policies and will continue to do so even if it feels like kicking the shins of Goliath because they don't react. But I feel that if enough keep doing it and also write to the media trying to point out the media's spinelessness something may prick a conscience eventually - but I am an optimist at heart 😁
When they sold telecom and railways etc in the 90s ? I’m sure there is a story about the people who were on the panel organising the sale who some how came to own some of these state assets . Fay Richwite might be associated with it. They made millions and in stead of a public scandal it was covered up. Anyhow my memory is vague .

Others have given some great answers. I'll come back to it shortly - later tonight.
Luton,is NZ Trump. He will go down as NZ worst prime minister.

Great work Tūī, thank you !
As for the intention of selling state assets -

Dammit Tui, I swing tween depressive despair and physical anger.
It would be great (hint, hint) if someone could unpick the atlas and project 2025 outfits and their possible impact on Kiwi land
Govt policy is now a commodity
In the past it's been a bit of this, and a bit of that, but this lot only seem to care about their donors and private interests.
