Seymour rides high - realising the dreams of Don Brash and Sean Wright - While The Wrecking Ball On Our Public Health System Continues
Four headlines
1. Seymour rides high
David Seymour told RNZ that it wields “disproportionate’ influence in government, claiming credit for “half the ideas” of government, and for helping to lower inflation.
"ACT is always there; putting the pressure on.”
Seymour also continues to claim "massive support" for the government's Treaty Principles Bill, citing a Curia poll showing 2 to 1 are in favour of it. He claims credit for putting the Treaty Principles Bill ideas into “the public domain, they're legitimate, they're normalized”.
Next year in May, Seymour will take the reigns of Deputy PM and scores this as a win for all the “landlords, farmers, small business, licensed firearm owners who felt that they haven't been heard by the (Ardern Labour) government.”

Notes:
Hubris as political parties continue to take responsibility for tanking economy faster and ignoring inflation forecasts that always had inflation coming down.
Curia polls have been found to have significant bias in some cases, and there is a question of what is taking RANZ so long to publish its findings. In question also is who told David Farrar Curia was due to be suspended/expelled, allowing him to ‘resign’ in advance. Farrar is still claiming he’s been unfairly treated, and cites low confidence in professional standards groups, while in the same breath saying he might rejoin one day.
What is true about Seymour’s comments - many ideas are from him. I know because I have tracked government comments for a while and realised many of Luxon’s policies were first mentioned by Seymour, who has often copied them from overseas and most likely from his advisors such as Atlas Network partner Taxpayers Union and New Zealand Institute. Think tanks invariably share their materials across the world. And for my right wing friends who like to use the word “conspiracy” whenever Atlas Network is mentioned, this one’s for you.
With the help of a weak Prime Minister and a self-centred National Party leadership, Seymour has been successful at introducing the misleading concept that Maori’s original contract with the Crown is a “problem” in New Zealand, and removing their status as indigenous peoples could even be viewed as an option for Aotearow New Zealand.
Seymour has basically brought Don Brash’s dreams into reality. And very possibly, that of key supporters such as Best Start’s Wright Family.
In 2022, Sean Wright, who funded Sean Plunkett & The Platform, told Spinoff:
“I would say that if a particular group of people feel aggrieved, then make something of it. Get out there and do it.”
This is a key part of his motivation in funding The Platform…
He believes Te Tiriti is an important document, but not relevant to his vision of New Zealand…
“I don’t think the answer to it is carving them out, and giving them extraordinary rights and privileges, because they don’t live as long. The fact that a group doesn’t live as long… is not inherent racism.”
