PHOTOS: NZ Protests - Again
National Government started their pay equity review over a year ago in April 2024
Kiwis around the country protest:

RNZ reports more than 1000 descended on Brooke Van Velden’s office
Note:
The government started this pay equity process in April 2024.
That’s over a year ago.
Cabinet signed it off two months ago.
There was no reason for urgency - and never was.
The Minister for Woman was left with some choice messages
Addendum
Today, Luxon said that librarians can’t be compared to fisheries officers - to impress upon average Kiwis the old system was wrong.
It’s misleading of course.
Just like their Toyota Corolla and Ferrari analogy was when cancelling Kiwirail ferries - costing Kiwis $1.1bn - National are simply exemplary when it comes to misleading signals and impressions.
As usual, Stuff and NZ Herald aren’t platforming the protests on their front page either.1
Instead, Stuff signals “the activist Waitangi Tribunal” is going to be “dealt with”
Just like they dealt with the women, I guess.

Last year, I could never find Casey Costello’s tobacco corruption news on any NZ Herald front page or landing page
Thanks for the photos Tui. I got to listen to some of the great speeches from the Auckland Protest - so articulate, passionate, and powerful. Some likened what happened this week to taking Pay Equity back 50 years - 1975!
That reminded me of Helen Reddy's I am Woman hit of the 70s. The lyrics are as appropriate for this week as they were when Reddy first sang them in the early 70s:
I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back and pretend
'Cause I've heard it all before
And I've been down there on the floor
No one's ever gonna keep me down again
Whoa, yes, I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman (ooh)
You can bend, but never break me
'Cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
'Cause you've deepened the conviction in my soul
Thanks for the pics. Was at b van viscious's office, reputed to be 1000 there. I'm an old fart doin it for my daughters, grands and great grands. We can't let this rest. Evil bastards. Yep I got wet, but I won't go rusty.
