The Epsom List MP who authored a biography for ACT Party "Godfather" Alan Gibbs finally succeeded in his senior leadership role in the National Party. Video post
Argh, the coalition MT, where the cruelty never ends.
So let me try and lay this out to help me get my head around yet another integrity free coalition politician. Paul ‘the Baptist’ Goldsmith, is the individual who wrote Don Brash’s autobiography, and claimed Brash, “was a true New Zealand patriot.” He was the mathematical savant whose innumeracy missed $4 billion dollars - which later blew out to $8 billion dollars - in National’s fiscal plan, when he was National’s finance spokesman. He is the person who unlawfully appointed Stephen Rainbow and Melissa Derby as Human Rights Commissioners - barracked on by none other than honest Prayin’ Collins. And he is the high integrity politician who purposefully omitted some disallowed measures from the Crimes Amendment Bill. And according to his maiden speech in parliament, he is an evangelical believer in the, “principles of individual freedom, personal responsibility, and economic growth.” That’s code for, “ I’m a dinosaur.”
Goldsmith, is a man who loves to stoke division too, stating that tikanga Māori introduces unpredictability into the law, and could deter investment. What complete rubbish. He has also stated that, “good and bad came with colonisation in the 19th century but, on balance, it had been good for Māori.” Give me strength, what a misguided, ignorant, historically illiterate New Zealander. Sadly, his long list of transgressions and poor judgement is pretty much endless. Goldsmith certainly does not represent New Zealand’s best and brightest, far from it, which makes him a sublime fit for the coalition. Being incompetent is not a bug with Goldsmith, it is a feature.
Ok that helps. Thanks for your patience MT. Summarising, Goldsmith is a right-wing, libertarian who really should be in ACT. He has a very sketchy record for honesty, few discernible values of any consequence, and he is happy to abuse his role as Justice Minister, by breaching human rights to punch down on the most vulnerable people in New Zealand society. I have to agree with Darren above. Goldsmith is by almost every objective measure, a piece of excrement. Justice is all about equity and fairness. Goldsmith, by his actions refutes the very meaning of justice and has no claim whatsoever to the Justice Minister role. Nice one Luxon, yet another f..kup, but it is so totally on brand.
More bashing of the most vulnerable in our society - being homeless usually comes with a host of other disadvantages which are part of what need to be addressed. To those who say, where are their whanau - I say, often they are part of the problem. I pay tax so that we all have a chance of a decent life, not to pay the fat salaries of selfish people like Goldsmith who make life harder for some. Vote them out!
Probably not an intelligent reply, but I keep seeing goldsmith in an SS uniform and that’s not a recent thought. With his most recent comments , I think maybe my vision is correct.
Just today the People's Committee on Pay Equity presented its report on that awful bill which was suddenly foisted upon us a year ago - the report was barely covered in today's media. Yet closely linked to the issue of pay equity for those who are employed in serving the community is how we as a society regard the frail and less able, the crooks, the down and outs, the jobless and homeless in our society. The current coalition in particular, but govts for some time, appear to regard such people and the folk who are involved with their care, as a drag on society, an inconvenience, or as our leader calls them - bottom feeders. Society's leaders would have us believe the most important issue is the economy. Lets imagine turning that understanding on its head for a moment and consider a society where the focus is on a democratic distribution of responsibility. Everyone involved in some way or other. Wow, wouldn't that redirect resources! A resilient and healthy community is surely one where responsibility for each other is recognized and acted upon by both govt and community, not sidelined or dismissed as unimportant.
Apparently 3 News led with it. TV1 barely mentioned it. RNZ has been hopeless too. But the women former MPs, and the submitters - oh their stories and their recommendations! Brooke Van Velden said it would be a waste of time reading the report, but I am and everyone should. It's a huge expose of a corrupt government. A breach of so many rights both nationally and internationally. There will be consequences.
Yes I watched it and was proud of my former MP colleagues. They did a great job. Apparently there was a big crowd there. I'm told there is a High Court hearing underway about a breach of the Bill of Rights. There will be more court cases.
One of the most dangerous men to tread the corridors of Parliament. Anyone who claims another is a “true NZ patriot” (referring to Brash) should concern everyone. The word ‘patriot’, used so often by convicted felon Trump and his rabid supporters is truly scary.
I guess they’re going to start building concentration camps like the USA. I’ve been following @dr. g is ✨your weirdo friend✨ and whilst she talks about the USA I feel we may need some of her advice sooner than we think unless we vote them out.

Goldsmith is a piece of shit.
Another hollow little man
Hard to disagree... 😳
He is just awful.
Anyone who supports the persecution of homeless people needs to check their moral compass.
The 18 year wet dream of a washed up politician.
How would you describe a Bigoted, Racist, Right Wing, Corrupt, politician? PGoldsmith!
Unbelievable! A white, wealthy, disconnected, arrogant, uncaring prick! Ditch him and his regressive Government that he is part of - this year 2026!

Coalition of Cruelty, this isn't just a label it is a fact.

I zoomed into the presentation at the National library, then later read the report. Yes, it is a damning report and also interesting. I noted the Herald reported it with a slant that implied it was just a left wing workplace issue. The Stuff report wasn't much better. https://psanz.imiscloud.com/Common/Uploaded%20files/Pay%20Equity/Website%20Assets/People's%20Select%20Committee%20on%20Pay%20Equity%20Inquiry%20into%20the%20Equal%20Pay%20Amendment%20Act%202025.pdf

Goldsmith is a truly vile POS, excuse my French.
