Great stuff as always. And yet there are those who are saying “ if they were hungry enough they’d eat it” implying perhaps we aren’t starving our kids to the proper extent yet?

As well as feeding those hungry, a shared healthy meal has pro-social benefits. The ‘breaking of bread’ that many cultures have valued for centuries. School meals are a formal and prized part of the day in many European nations and contribute to good habits and inclusivity.

BTW I like the extensive use of footnotes. Makes reading the main article easier.

Well said and noted.

Another comment i encountered is : if you can't feed them don't have them. I go on attack asking "do you prefer your tax cuts to go to tobacco companies like Philip Morris:216 million dollars " to the place to go to poor kids ? Sending them to France ,Finland and Malaysia to see what the kids are fed there ! And of course I point the obvious that Seymour &Stanford promised to supply same kind of nutritional value meals at lower costs. They pretty much shut after this.

Mountain Tūī's avatar

Yes good on you!

I find the ignorance (as in not knowing most of what is going on) on Facebook to be extremely strong.

Most are unaware of the Philip Morris corruption - because NZME never made a big deal out of it!

In fact, I remember when it happened / was revealed, I couldn't find it on any NZME landing page - I had to google to find it.

That shows us all the power of media, and why the alt right are now systematically taking it over/influencing it.

Thanks for your service Mihaela :-)

Nah, this bunch is collecting Data on Facebook to persecute their Enemies and they can't let on that they're doing it because it would be so telling that they just don't give a stuff about what the public feels about how we're being treated by this crowd of Numptie's making rules for themselves, while intentionally leaving the Public out of the Debate until they separate us by using our Complaints Data against us from what they've siphoned off Face Book to use against our Pushbacks, so they don't have to listen to us...

Exactly!

The whole idea of these school lunches is that they are for children for whom their only nutritious meal of the day is a school lunch. Regardless of whether their parents should be providing it for them, the point is that for so many they are not. Children are our future and we as a society must try to look after them - all of them. It's for the benefit of us all to do so. It is disappointing that the headline in the NZ Herald today refers to a "saviour" of Seymour's scheme in that Compass will buy out Libelle to continue this horror show.

When I write I often write for the people that support the Coalition - people who believe money is primary. What you say is a matter of values and to my utter despair, when I went on Facebook, I saw the masses saying what Luxon echoed. i.e it's the family's fault, who cares, stop whining etc.

A lot of what Seymour says and does - and Luxon too - is playing to their base - who are coached in thought processes by places like Newstalk ZB and Platform

I still get shivers up my spine when I see that Haka performance in Parliament, then when it pans to the upper chambers where the members of the public were also performing. I feel a powerful sense of pride.

I have immense respect for Peeni Henare for standing up for the Haka & for his culture.

Mountain Tūī's avatar

Ditto on all counts.

Cindy's avatar

🫂 Same! I trust if there is any penalty for this many of us around the motu will protest in some way 👍🤷

I wasn't expecting these low cost meals to be great. But they are far far worse than I expected. Inedible, lacking nutrition, either frozen or fired through the sun, it is so terrible it is an appalling waste of money

Mountain Tūī's avatar

Absolutely! My sense was always Seymour didn't care, and just wanted a basic (crappy if need be) program that he could show off to his base that he was saving money on. "Big, smart Seymour saves the day"

The rest wasn't important to him.

People who vote for him often obtain their info from ACT Facebook pages, listen to Newstalk ZB, believe Sean Plunkett - so he is protected to a large extent by how they coach their people to think already ie. many of the parents are losers, too lazy, incompetent etc.

I don't think he wanted the programme to be THIS visibly bad as there was no way he could filter all the bad news, social media posts - even from his voters.

In the first few weeks, he was still denying problems, claiming a few were sensationalising the issues with bad social media posts. And lying and weaving deception as usual.

We should always remind everyone this is what Seymour means and gets when he boasts of his libertarian values.

Lone Wolfe's avatar

He did the same thing on Q&A today, Smirking his way through the entire interview...

Luxon and Seymour are morally bankrupt 😡

We know it is madness to fix something that isn't broken, yet that is what this Govt is doing to somehow prove they are better managers of the economy over the previous Labour Govt. So far there has been failure with the ferry replacement, school lunches, and the treaty principle bill. No apologies, no acceptance that they got it wrong:) Shameful

Mountain Tūī's avatar

I think because "their" news media and influencers are always making excuses for them, pretending the issues aren't bad AND / OR blaming someone else (Labour, woke, Maori, beneficiaries) - blame cannot be something they personally admit.

It's part of their conniving, deceptive playbook - they deny and their affiliates back them up.

I remember when the govt first started, it became very obvious they were never going to back down, never going to apologise.

I could only assumed they'd been coached by their right wing think tanks - it's a common thread across these types of politicians (Trump being the most obvious example).

Dave P's avatar

For once I would love media to call chef Dave out on his fibs. Ring every principal who receives this program and establish what they are actually saying. He is not a reliable narrator.

Lone Wolfe's avatar

The Education Ministry needs a "Principals Hot-Line" so that the Data is kept and the li'l prick can't claim they don't know theres a problem because they don't collect any Data to be able to review their forced Programs using Real time Data from School Ground Level.

That was his excuse today. Basically a "Sargeant Schultz, from Hogan's Hero's, I Knooow Nuthinggg" comment & then accused Jack of being Petty for even bringing it up. I think he wanted to say WOKE, but held his forked tongue & just Smirked the thought...

This Govt knows the cost of things, the value of nothing. An intellectual handicap really.

Seymour’s strategy is the same as Trump’s: create a continuous series of outrageous diversions to distract people from what you are really doing “under the radar”. They are both working very hard to grasp the reins of power, preferably supreme power. It’s his programme of legislation we must reserve energy for fighting against. He doesn’t care a hoot about hungry poor children. Guess who is the only one he really cares about?

We need a creative resistance response — laughtivist - see the freely downloadable small handbook, Pranksters vs. Autocarts: Why Dilemma Actions Advance Nonviolent Activism, published in 2020 by Cornell Press. Srdja Popovic and Sophia A. McClennen give examples including the Indivisible campaign’s use of “empty chair” town hall meetings as an example of a “dilemma action.” https://www.cornellpress.cornell.edu/book/9781501756061/pranksters-vs-autocrats/#bookTabs=3

Perhaps something like a free lunch picnic on Parliament lawn for a school field trip …

Ange Boland's avatar

It’s quite simple… if I went to a food provider, like a cafe, bakery, lunch bar

Ange Boland's avatar

Oops, I’ll try that again!

If I went to a food provider, like a cafe, takeaway, lunch bar, restaurant, and the food and the service was shit, I would not give them a second chance. I would think most people would have the same reaction. Why is this any different?

And the double standards of the Speaker, and the CoC’s makes me incredibly angry.

Nigel Williams's avatar

Don’t expect anything from the big CEO. All he’s interested in is the futility of GROWTH. Helen Clark would have had Seymour “gone by lunchtime” !

Angela, do you see the 3 wee dots on the right side of the page, opposite your name up in the corner? You can edit your comment by clicking on those dots. M-Tui mentioned that to me a while back and it does help to keep from redoing my comment either before, or after I post it. Hope that helps with your commentary!

In my case, I need to learn how to truncate and condense my thoughts into smaller bites with the same basic thought & Ideas - outcome, as the long and drawn out ones. A work in progress... I guess, I'd also like more Emoji's than just Hearts to show my Emotions on these threads a it more accurately!

Cindy's avatar

🙋🤔 Both my digital on-screen keyboards (tablet & phone) have an emoji button - I also have a wireless physical keyboard that I run at the same time, which doesn't have them (as far as I can tell 👀) My family taught me emojis & it becomes a fun part of things trying to work out which ones are appropriate 😁

How on earth do you get through to these L'il Hitlers that they're Naked in Public after selling their clothes to the Neoliberal Capitalist gods of Money, Money Money???

I made the mistake of watching the return of Jack Tame today on Q&A with the Smirking Arrogant Prick & ole Matua Shame Jones, his eloquent self. The result has left me speechless...
