I have stopped watching TV news, other than the occasional incidental time when at someone else's place. My news now comes via RNZ app on my phone, and a few substack writers. We are fortunate to have Mountain Tūī , Bernard Hickey, Gary Payinda and Susan St John, to name just a few of them. The doctored soundbites from TV are tailored to those with a short attention span. Unfortunately, (imo), they also vote!
This is a sorry state of affairs. Only thing I can say is at least they didn't merge tvnz and rnz - could've been even worse. (Though I think rnz standards are slipping somewhat too)
This is unacceptable and Barclay must resign or be sacked.
A National party appointment interfering with the news, imagine the furore if this was a Green/TPM appointee.
Also using a survey as hard evidence is disingenuous at the very least and should be called out as such. This sort of messaging however is par for the course with the COC.
I find this sort of behaviour wrong in all levels. Having access to Politicians is often the beginning of corruption.
Politicians need to be very clear in drawing the line between their political duties and their civic duties. The line has been crossed in a serious way.
Sadly there is no one in the CoCC who has the guts to speak up about this.
Only one way to stop it. Vote them out 7th November.
I watched Craig Renney, i think it was BHN, not his podcast, on how National came up with those stats about reduced crime. Not only will it turn you stomach but shortly after that your blood will boil.
New Zealand not having an independent anti-corruption organisation/watchdog with real teeth and investigative powers allows this to happen.
Meanwhile, we have Paul Goldsmith having memory losses, and a Prime Minister not across details at Question Time today, and having to correct answers from yesterday. Willis playing the victim today, while dishing it out. Oh, and Gerry threatening to throw Luxon out of Parliament. I think this will be a very long 8 months until 7 November.
Another National Party plant in a strategic Government or quasi Government position. This country is now littered with them. TVNZ has certainly lost its way and creditability.

Absolutely in accord
Denise. No tv for me either
I'm with you there. The last thing we watched on TV was Queen Elizabeth's funeral. Poor RNZ has to walk carefully now, though.
And The Spinoff.

I feel it just hearing it. I know there is something very wrong with the stats they are parading around. Thanks for the heads up
All part of the game plan. And a good reason (Trivago ad first) to never use TVNZ for real news - they have sold their soul
Thanks for covering this Mountain Tui.

Yes, yes, and yes!
Way too much old boys nepotism
