I suspect many of the Government MPs, snoozing with their cameras off for most submissions, might have perked up when they heard the security implications. Surely that's not the legacy even their conservative voters want.
Have been struck as I watched how many different, passionately argued objections there are. A strong theme though of this being a missed opportunity. We could have had a conversation, perhaps a national roadshow, about how to improve legislation and strengthen democracy and participation. Something enduring and useful might have come out of that. Instead we've got this, this, this... .whatever it is.

Olsen had a hard job, not admitting we are in the doldrums bumping on the bottom for a quarter. Looks like the economy is being strangled by under investment and the possible capping of Rates rises will force Councils to divest of assets. All part of the Fire economy plan.
The tone is becoming more desperate, appeals by Jones, vilification by Seymour and absent in charge Luxon. Some threatening RNZ and any other truth, by buying board membership to influence with distraction articles on Jacinda Kiri and Golrez. Stuff pulling out all the stops. imo. Those that aren't, like Luxon, are fundamentalist nutters who have no interest in people that do not follow their God. I wondered aloud yesterday whether there are sufficient numbers of National or NZF members sufficient to break party whips and vote this bill down, hopefully we might yet be surprised although I'm not holding my breath

I view this as "all Good", but I also notice the Freaks it's attracting with their short & generally none sensical digs at folks commenting on all of these pages. Fortunately none of them have managed to raise any valid points of contention, as they've just added Snarky BS posts without any actual merit.
I'm glad you did your Mega Post on the Submission Responses from the people that showed up in person to talk to the Camera's, which was generally disliked by most of the folks submitting, thinking and or hoping they would be speaking Eyeball to Eyeball with the Panel hearing the submission (behind closed doors). I guess they were to embarrassed to show their faces?
I was hoping for some pushback questions from Panel members, but other than the odd question by a Labour Woman it was quiet like a Mouse in Room 4. You'da thunk there would have been more moaning from the Panel Audience in defence of Seymours sad excuse for a Bill, but there wasn't. That could be both a good thing and bad thing if this was supposed to be a Debate Platform, to discover why this Bill was even necessary to enact.
