Yes, Erica Stanford really said she asks the uber wealthy "how can we improve our service to you?" and apparently spends a lot of time with them to ensure we "meet their requirements"

Note this is similar to a previous article where I described Luxon as a concierge to rich foreign interests - it appears this is more of the same.

It also comes as many foreign countries close their door to bolthole immigrants

What a load of absolute hogwash. This woman, as my mum would have said, talks through a hole in her b*m.

Shallow, superficial, suck-up selling us out for short term political gain.

Liz Francis's avatar

I don't know so much that it would be "short term" gain - if those uber wealthy gain opportunity to vote here then those who are currently "governing" us will most probably cement their political advantage and power. Already we see that uber rich view NZ as a desirable country - an island so no border wars, no snakes like Australia, scenic, submissive population who would love to serve them.......... just needs a bit of tweeking of the political set up!!

It's a pretty quick benefit for National and the right for sure. James Grenon was also an import from Canada.

I suspect Robbo is referring to how they are coming in under the guise of investing in PRIVATISED HEALTHCARE and the like though ie.. National are touting it as "investment dollars"

And this is why we need reform to election finance laws and the police to actually investigate and bring cases to trial. A minister spending as much time as she can with rich non residents going above and beyond helping them become residents? Quid pro quo’s all around ? I wonder how many applicants will pass an AML check?

And asking "How can we i.e. NZ improve our service to you?"

This comes at a time when other countries are tightening immigration and residency requirements - what does that say about our national pride and who we are?

Liz Francis's avatar

I want to live in a country where the provision of well funded public education/social/health services are not viewed as an aberration.

My neighbour had to wait the best part of a year to become a NZ citizen although he had lived here for more than ten years prior to his application. The authorities said he hadn’t spent enough days in the country over this past year - he had been in and out of NZ speaking at conferences and in court in relation to environmental degradation. I’m so glad to have him and his wife as neighbours and fellow citizens rather than the likes of Musk or Thiel!

What is clear is that this government is a massive failure for the people of this country.

Margaret Galvin's avatar

So money for health. She should have said we are privatising health with the money.

Margaret Galvin's avatar

She should have said that.

Mike's avatar

Sounds like the rest of us non-global citizens are some sort of other class of citizen whose full time residency shouldn’t be allowed to opinion on the service that our government provides… bunch of self serving clowns. 🤡

I recently saw her speak at the opening of a long-awaited school building. She had zero interest in what might actually 'happen' in the building, and spent her entire time farting on about how great National was, how Labour couldn't build anything, and how much money she is saving by building greige identi-kitset classrooms. The audience was locals and VIPs, falling asleep to her entirely-inappropriate propaganda, which failed to reference any actual student education or inspiration that might happen inside the building... From what I've heard from others, her speeches—regardless of the setting—are basically all only appropriate for a National Party conference.

I believe she was a reality TV show producer or worker before and then worked as Admin in a National Party MP's office before becoming an MP herself.

The last time National soft launched her, her interviews were abysmal and she came across as vacuous and clearly spoon fed.

She's obviously been trained to act and talk confidently and does that well to an extent, but what you talk of Tim, is somehow no surprise at all.

It's clear that her and Bishop are contending to be National Party leader, either before or after the election, and her persona and identity seems to be quite shallow - which would explain your experience perhaps!

The fact that she said she's acting like a Concierge to the wealthy says it all - "How can we improve our service to you"

Really?! Are you a government or are you a < >

Thanks Tim interesting to hear of this experience - and helpful

If you watch her body language, especially the over Animation & Hand wringing and her “Deer in the Headlights” Facial expressions, Eye rolls & constant blinking, she's frantically trying to make sure she says the things an investor group wants to hear. Nothing Genuine there if you’re an astute Venture Capitalist seeding Wealth in such a small market.

She uses the Shotgun method of delivery covering the Bullet Points from the script in her head and desperately keeping from Waffling to keep the audiences attention.

I think by now we know and can see the patterns in Nationals Salesmanship & Concierge approach to selling the profit potential and backing off on the rules of Residency before Investment.

She makes no effort to make sure of Circular investment to keep the money here in NZ. She'd never make it as a Reality TV Person in front of the Camera's. Too Jerky and fake. She also tends to lose her temper and talk down to people who ask her hard questions. There's a huge difference between her Press Conferences and Sales Pitch to investor groups.

Desperate to do good for the Ideological Cause is Erica Stanford. Follow the money with this one! The American's she entertains are looking for Bolt Holes & small Footprints while Trump is their Big Bossman making the Global rules in the Art of the Deal…

Do we need another Peter Thiel, or an Elon Musk to park their arses here & take over the Capture of Wealth our Domestic Economy needs over their personal interests???

In the Neoliberal Capitalist Game of Last Oligarch Standing when the Music Stops, She's a Desperate Cheerleader looking to make the Quarterback happy to keep her Head Cheerleader job and Salary.

That goes for all of them atm though doesn’t it. Just corporate money speak for the wealthy about assets and resources. Never any reference whatever to he tangata, society, the nation.

sucking up to mega-parasites is not the NZ way.

Regarding the reference to Rangitoto College.

Apparently both Stanford and her father raised a fuss with the headmaster about it. And they then wouldn't let it go as the chosen head girl was related to a teacher at the school and Stanford and her father claimed that kept Stanford out of the head job.

Mountain Tūī's avatar

Wow as if she couldn't fall more in my estimation

John P's avatar

What isn't widely known about Stanford is that when she was a senior student she didn't achieve the position of head girl at her school (Rangitoto College). Of course she made a fuss but it was all to no avail as the school had no intention of removing some other student who gained the appointment. My heart bleeds for her!

Mountain Tūī's avatar

Entitled, much?

Well done Rangitoto

One day in the future, the rich will have to deal with the uncomfortable proposition of eating themselves. I hope there is an afterlife so I can grab some popcorn and enjoy the show.

Yup

She spending a lot of time with them, what to make sure they are Nat voters? Oh cynical me. Just because they are global citizens does not mean they are good citizens, as we know from America. We don’t need bolt hole people.
